It is rare to physically travel through the process of a visionary, yet Valentino’s Re-Signify experiential exhibition in Beijing offers just such an emotional and experiential journey. The maison’s creative director, Pierpaolo Piccioli, defines his personal work process as a resignification—looking at the signs of today through a new lens to create the signs of tomorrow.

The second chapter of the resignification of Maison Valentino’s codes by Piccioli in Beijing’s SKP South’s T-10 exhibition confirms the house’s commitment to the intersection and interplay of fashion and art. The dresses chosen by Piccioli from the maison’s archive span the recent haute couture collections, including Valentino Of Grace and Light, Valentino Code Temporal and Valentino Act Collection. All are exhibited on Bonaveri mannequins, punctuating connective moments with the individual works of art.

The exhibition offers a dialogue between the house’s signs and the artwork of 18 artists, including Cao Fei, Xu Zhen, Gioele Amaro, Robert Müller, Liu Shiyuan, Cheng Ran, Shen Xin, Xu Wenkai, AMKK, Jonas Mekas, Yeesookyung, Nick Knight, Jacopo Benassi, PaJaMa, Robert Del Naja, Wu Rui and Alessandro Teoldi. Through a variety of viewpoints and languages, the works offer meditations on the city, the fashion and the self.
