With 10 luxurious camping sites across the United States—from Acadia National Park in Surry, Maine, to the Great Smoky Mountains in Gatlinburg, Tenn., to the majestic Grand Canyon in Grand Canyon Junction, Ariz.—Under Canvas has established itself as the definitive leader in navigating the great outdoors in style since its founding in 2012. While the brand recently announced that its newest outpost at Bryce Canyon in Widtsoe, Utah, will arrive in June 2022, its fellow Utah hideaway in Big Water bowed in early April.

Welcome to Under Canvas Lake Powell – Grand Staircase, a 220-acre property featuring 50 dazzling safari-style tents teamed with private front porches and en suite bathrooms. Tucked just 14 miles from Wahweap, the main Lake Powell marina, and less than 10 miles from Lone Rock Beach, the campsite is an ideal place for solo adventurers, couples and families alike to retreat.

On property, guests are greeted at the tented main lobby, the site’s social hub where its cafe, retail offerings and plenty of board games await. Out back, a gorgeous outdoor seating area entices with fire pits, dining tables and high-top seating that overlooks the stunning canyon below. Live music, guest speakers—think astronomers who will help you spot the twinkling constellations above—and complimentary s’mores ensure your evening enchants aft er a long day of exploring the nearby sights.

From there, cozy up in one of three styles of tents—from the Suite, its largest accommodation that can sleep up to four, to the Stargazer, which features a window above the bed for sky-watching, to the Deluxe, its entry-level option. (Request an adjacent kids’ tent if the little ones are in tow to keep them close while also enjoying your own privacy.) Furnishings come courtesy of West Elm (the plush king-size beds adorned with luxury linens are as sumptuous as it gets); private bathrooms include all the amenities from home (including a flushing toilet—this is glamping, after all); and USB-powered charging ports are on offer to keep you connected. Fire up your wood-burning stove to set the mood and keep warm when the temps dip at night. Then, it’s time to explore—head to the sidebar at right to see what awaits! Open through Oct. 31; 2022 dates March 10 to Oct. 31; tents from $329 per night

EXPLORE!

Whether you’re a water baby or a hiking aficionado, Utah’s rich topography offers adventurers of all tastes something to enjoy. Kayaks and stand-up paddleboards are available for checkout at Under Canvas while boat and jet ski rentals can be accessed via its preferred partners. Head out on the water at Lone Rock Beach, a sandy shoreline that makes swimming and sunbathing a breeze, or drop anchor from Wahweap Marina. Slot canyons are one of the area’s most wondrous sights—Antelope Canyon and the Wire Pass Trail to Buckskin Gulch (off-roading required) will have you hiking between soaring rock faces (check the weather as flash floods are a hazard). Finally, chase the sunset at the jaw-dropping Horseshoe Bend. An easy 1 ½-mile hike on a paved road leads to a majestic rim that drops down roughly 1,000 feet to reveal the winding Colorado River below. Photoworthy, indeed.
