After years of painful periods and multiple surgeries for endometriosis, twin sisters Catherine Lee and Lauren Lee-Crane decided to get proactive about their menstrual health.

Tired of taking traditional over-the-counter pain medications that inflamed their stomach linings yet did little to address their symptoms, the duo teamed up with Lee-Crane’s husband, Dr. Matt Crane, to develop Semaine Health, a line of plant-based supplements for period health.

“Surprisingly, even though 80% of people with periods experience period pain, there are very few options on the market that address cramps, bloating or fatigue that happens on our cycles,” explains Lee-Crane. “Most existing products are all NSAID based and really haven’t innovated for decades,” she continues.

Sourcing most of their ingredients from a sustainable European supplier, the company also tests the products in clinical trials.

“We want our customers to be able to trust our efficacy and ingredients not just because we take our supplements and they work for us, but because we have the data driven by a third-party lab to back that up,” says Lee-Crane. In addition to their bestselling The Daily Hormone Balance supplement, the trio recently launched Menopause Essentials, made with antioxidant-rich bergamot and olive extract as well as red clover, which contains phytoestrogens, which real-world studies have shown can help reduce symptoms of declining estrogen. Calling it “the Mediterranean diet in a bottle,” Lee-Crane says the product is formulated to directly improve quality of life issues people experience in perimenopause, like intense hot fl ashes, mood swings and night sweats.

“Just because these symptoms aren’t life-threatening in any way doesn’t mean they shouldn’t be addressed,” she explains. “We started Semaine solely to address this major gap in the market, and we’ve continued to develop products that address every stage of life for people with uterine-ovarian systems from periods to menopause and every hormonal fluctuation in between.”

As the company continues to innovate in the period and menopause space, look for microbiome support and mood enhancers designed specifically for women in the first half of 2023, along with an expansion of its roster of retail partners. Semaine Health products are currently available in select Walgreens stores nationwide and online at Target and Thrive Market. semainehealth.com
