Roshan Rama and Priya Sinha-Rama were set up by mutual friends who thought they would be the perfect match. It was lucky for the couple; their friends were right. Over dinner in Beverly Hills, Roshan and Priya immediately knew they had a connection. “Roshan was in law school at Duke, and I was in law school at Georgetown. We dated long-distance, and I am so glad that we did,” says Priya. In the summer of 2023, while the happy couple vacationed in Italy, Roshan popped the question with their families–another wonderful surprise at Villa Melzi in Lake Como.

Growing up, Priya always envisioned having a traditional Indian wedding in the backyard of her home, just like her parents had in India. Weddings in India are celebrations steeped in beautiful traditions, where families and community surround the bride and groom; that is precisely what Priya and Roshan wanted. Performing an elegant Indian-style wedding over multiple days in a private residence would be a complex and unique feat. Still, the Sinha family was determined to make it happen. Most of the design and planning was performed directly by Priya’s parents, Pradeep and Ranjana Sinha, who assembled a “Dream Team” of wedding professionals to create the perfect event for their daughter and future son-in-law. The Sinhas made multiple trips to India, meeting with the top fashion designers to create numerous wedding outfits. Dressing up for her wedding in custom-made outfits from India in Priya’s childhood bedroom was truly special.

The Sinhas chose different areas of the property and arranged custom decorations for each event. The pre-wedding Haldi Ceremony, with colorful hues of yellow, was attended by hundreds of friends and family and featured internationally renowned performers of classical Indian music. The tennis court that Priya played on as a child served as the backdrop for the lively nighttime Sangeet, the traditional ceremony for singing and dancing, as well as fantastic food from chef Gaurav Anand, who flew in his team from New York to create a “Flight of Indian Cuisine” featuring succulent delicacies from every corner of India.

The couple performed their nuptials under a custom-created Mandap during a ceremony seating close to 700 guests. Surrounded by loved ones, Priya made a grand entrance down a beautiful, mirrored pathway (her favorite design element of the wedding) to her beloved. Once pronounced husband and wife, a cannon showered the space with thousands of flower petals.

A poolside pre-wedding cocktail hour featured renowned Indian percussionist Nihal Singh playing on a custom stage in the pool and a massive custom-made peacock adorned with thousands of fresh flowers. The couple’s favorite design element was the loveseat, where the two ate dinner and heard speeches. “It was like a second Mandap, a stage where an Indian wedding occurs,” shares Priya. The newlyweds happily danced the night away with family and friends. Award-winning entertainer Jeffrey Iqbal kept the crowd dancing with his unique fusion of Indian and Western music. A joyful celebration of love, tradition, and family, Priya and Roshan’s wedding was everything the couple dreamed it would be and much more.
