“It was a terrifying and helpless feeling to see our sweet toddler suddenly covered in hives, eyes swollen shut and vomiting from something as simple as a bite of food,” says Catherine Jaxon, co-founder of Atlanta-based Mission MightyMe (missionmightyme.com) and mother of three, as she remembers the day she found out her eldest daughter is allergic to most nuts. While Jaxon’s daughter ended up being OK, the experience understandably shook her parents. Jaxon’s eldest is far from alone in her nut allergy, as ever since avoiding nuts and other food allergens in infancy became the norm two decades ago, nut allergies have tripled in children.

Jaxon and her family continued to grow, and when her third child arrived in 2015, Jaxon discovered Dr. Gideon Lack’s groundbreaking LEAP Study, which demonstrates that peanut allergies can be prevented through early exposure to peanuts. “It was a lightbulb moment,” she shares. “However, when my husband, JJ, and I looked for products that would make it easy to follow the guidelines and introduce nuts early with our third child, we quickly realized there was a huge gap in the market because the baby food industry is almost entirely allergen-free.” The experience inspired the Jaxons to found Mission MightyMe, a baby and kids food brand that provides a simple and delicious way to introduce peanuts and tree nuts into babies’ diets. “From our own experience raising three children, we know little ones won’t eat something that they don’t like,” says Jaxon. “Taste and texture has always been a top priority for Mission MightyMe, in addition to nutrition.” The brand’s new Proactive Nut Butter Puffs have a baby-friendly texture, dissolving easily to avoid a choking hazard, while also having a delicious nut flavor with a hint of cinnamon. The product is certainly infant-approved, as Jaxon shares, “It’s been so rewarding to hear positive feedback from customers who are grateful for a product that makes early allergen introduction easy and enjoyable for the whole family.”
