The delectable, eddible egg. It's a favorite at breakfast, for sure, but devil up your hard-boiled eggs, and you've got a delicious and health-conscious snack the whole year through.
Popular around the holiday season but just as fun at summer barbecues (as long as you eat them quickly!), chef Lisa Bryan of the YouTube channel Downshiftology, has prepared an easy-to-use recipe to present this finger-food classic with all the best flavor.
“I definitely don't have anything against splurges," Bryan says in the video, "but when you have the option to eat a healthy snack versus a sugary snack, I think that's always a win.”

Her deviled eggs recipe is full of helpful tricks. For instance, Bryan suggests pulling the whites back with your fingers to make the yellow of the egg super easy to spoon out. She uses a homemade mayo for the creamy mixture, but deviled eggs should never be limited to a fixed formula. Spice up your personal recipe with various special ingredients and holiday styles.
In this particular video, Bryan breaks the dish down to its most basic ingredient, but she wants you to know deviled eggs are flexible and open to different combinations. Dijon mustard, paprika and apple cider vinegar are just the jumping off point.

Ingredients:
- 6 large eggs
- 3 tablespoons mayonnaise
- 1 teaspoon Dijon mustard
- 1 teaspoon apple cider vinegar
- salt and pepper, to taste
- paprika, for garnish
Preparation:
- Bring a pot of water to a boil, then set a timer for 14 minutes to boil the eggs. Remember to lower the heat when adding the eggs to the water, and then return the heat to the normal level.
- During the boiling, prepare an ice-water bath and set aside. After 14 minutes, place the eggs in the prepared water bath.
- Peel the eggs and slice them in half lengthwise once the eggs have cooled completely.
- Remove the yolk and place in a small bowl using a spoon, leaving the egg whites on a plate.
- Mash the yolks and add the mayonnaise, Dijon mustard, vinegar, salt and pepper. Stir everything together until it's smooth. Dijon mustard adds more flavor than yellow mustard.
- Use a spoon or piping bag to add the yolk mixture back into the hole of each egg white. Sprinkle on paprika for garnish.
