Man of the Moment: Is Hicham Azhari Atlanta's Hottest Restaurateur

Meet this month’s Man of the Moment: FH Food Trading Group co-owner Hicham Azhari.


“I like to think everyone gets a certain amount of time in life to experiment—to see what they’re capable of. For me, it began when I landed in Atlanta. It was 1977, and this city had recently become the center of the world. I was a brighteyed 19-year-old from Morocco, and I had come to study computer science at Georgia Tech. It didn’t take very long to realize that this just wasn’t a path I wanted to pursue. So, I rebooted. I would sell… candles. (I lasted three months.) Over the following years, I found my stride. I met my best friend, Fikret Kovac, and we decided to go into business together. If my candle idea had been a risk, it was nothing compared to our first restaurant: Little Alley Tapas Bar & Restaurant. But we kept at it. I found a drive, a passion, in the idea of ‘hoping for the best, but expecting the worst.’ It’s a philosophy that has allowed us to be successful, even though we opened up restaurants in the middle of a recession; it’s pushed us to take risks; it’s given us the drive to push through obstacles; and it has allowed us to grow. The rewards have been worth it all.”
