Style & Beauty,
Janell Stephens transformed a problem into an empire.
Camille Rose Naturals founder and CEO (and mom of five) Janell Stephens
“I truly turned my hobby into a business,” says Janell Stephens, founder and CEO of Camille Rose Naturals (camillerose.com). Crafted from her Macon kitchen, the natural hair and skincare brand—made with gourmet ingredients that are good both in and on the body—was born from a lack of products in the marketplace that delivered the results her children needed.
“I grew tired of relying on prescriptions for a quick fix and decided to take matters into my own hands,” she says of her kids’ struggles with chronic eczema. Cue a year of researching natural solutions and ingredients that would supply deep moisture and combat severe skin and hair dryness. After much experimentation, in 2011, Camille Rose was officially launched. “I wanted to share my creations with everyone,” Stephens recalls. “I simply created a website telling my story and began selling Camille Rose products with the rest of the world.” And, soon, the world took notice.

As the brand approaches its 10th anniversary, it has grown to include a suite of products for all skin types and hair textures, with longtime favorites such as the Almond Jai twisting butter and newcomers like the ultrahydrating Honey collection. But for this entrepreneurial mom of five, balance remains key to her inimitable success. “I make sure to set aside time for things that spark joy, like cooking, working out or just laughing with friends,” she notes. And on the weekends? Spot Stephens whirling around Alpharetta.
PUCKER UP
We polled Stephens for her date-night picks. Here are her top 4 tricks to getting glam.
Fresh Honey Nectar deep conditioning treatment
What are your date-night beauty staples? A great red lippie, and my go-to has always been the Ruby Woo lipstick from MAC. Also, I am a girl who loves a great scent. I won’t leave home without spraying on my Velvet Rose perfume by Camille Rose. The notes are sweet Egyptian rose petals with hints of citrus and white plum.
How can you switch up your look from girl's brunch to romantic evening? Shoes and jewelry! When you’re brunching with your girlfriends, keep your look a bit toned down by wearing less jewelry and a more casual shoe. When it’s time for your date, dress up your LBD with a sexy heel and more bling.
Tips for night-out hair and makeup? Create a flirty look and go for something you wouldn’t normally do. Style your hair in a messy high bun and play with your eye shadows. Try metallic eye shadows or a smoky eye. These are all great looks for a nighttime scene.
Your Camille Rose must-haves? You can't go wrong with anything from the Camille Rose body collection. Our whipped body creams, sugar scrubs or body oils are all winners.
