Are all Aesthetic Injectors licensed?

All providers in Georgia who administer Dermal fillers and Botox must hold a medical license or function under a doctor's’ supervision. Providers can be Nurses, Nurse Practitioners, Physician Assistants/Associates or a Licensed Physician. Don’t be afraid to ask what their title is and even how long they have been injecting.

What kind of results can I expect after one injection?

Expectations are the most important thing you need to discuss with your injector. When you first meet an injector, we want to discuss what brings you in for the consultation and what your areas of concern are. From there we will discuss the steps involved in achieving the look you want and the estimated cost. I also like to discuss the facial structure and how its’ affected by aging. We begin to lose fat in our face starting in our 20’s. It's important to know that it is not uncommon for an injector to have to use multiple syringes of filler to achieve the look you want.

What type of filler and technique will be used?

As a first-time patient it is important to understand that there are different types of fillers. Two of the most common types are Hyaluronic Acid Filler (HA Filler) and Biostimulatory Fillers. HA filler is made of a fancy sugar molecule which can be dissolved if you have an issue. Biostimulatory fillers are fillers that cause you to build collagen that also enhance your skin tone and texture. They are not dissolvable but can be dispersed with specific agents.

As for the injection technique of the filler it can be done in two ways. One is your standard needle technique. The traditional filler needle can be used for cheeks, chin, or other larger areas. The other is through what we call a cannula technique. A cannula is still a needle, but described more like "a sort of blunt, flexible straw." It can be used in sensitive areas that require less filler, but increased precision.

How do I prepare for my appointment?

Once you've made the choice to jump into the world of dermal fillers, preparation should begin about two weeks ahead of the injection appointment to minimize post-injection annoyances, like temporary swelling and bruising. I advise patients to stop any supplements that may increase the risk of bruising, such as fish oil, anti-inflammatories including Aspirin and Tylenol, plus a few other particular medications. Alcohol can also increase the risk of bruising so your nightly one glass of wine will sadly have to wait a few days.

Are there any side effects or aftercare I should know before getting injected?

Patients should expect mild to moderate bruising and possible swelling or tenderness at the injection site. Depending on the procedure some can expect more bruising than others. For example, lip fillers can swell and bruise more than other procedures. There are supplements, such as Arnica and Bromelain, available to help with bruising. You can use these both before and after your injection. Any extreme pain or side effects should be reported to your provider to make sure there are no underlying issues. As for aftercare, we tell our patients to not wear makeup on the injection areas for at least 24 hours. For all of those who workout or are involved in any sporting activities, we recommend waiting at least 24 hours before engaging in these activities to prevent your filler from moving or getting infected.
