Your mama called it "The Change of Life." Your grandmother, well, she didn’t call it anything; that’s not ladylike. Me? I’m calling it Prime Time. As a 46-year-old mother of three teenagers, I jumped at the chance to sit down with Heather Quaile and Julie Morin, the clinical dream team at Atlanta’s new Nore Women’s Health, to dish about menopause and ask real questions posed by myself and my girlfriends. No holding back.

SUTHINGIRL
Girls, let’s talk hot flashes! Why don’t I run down my personal list of symptoms and see what hits home? Hot flashes, menstrual cycle with a mind of its own, weight gain around my middle…stop me when I get to the part where you tell me I’m in full-blown menopause…

JULIE
You’re definitely speaking our language. At Nore Women’s Health we see women with those symptoms every day.

HEATHER
You left out sleep disturbance, low libido, irritability, overactive bladder, vaginal dryness…

SUTHINGIRL
Right! So, let’s talk about what’s going on.

HEATHER
It’s all about the hormones. When a woman comes to Nore she’s experiencing a mix of symptoms and has probably shared her concerns with her OBGYN or PCP, but been told it’s “normal” and dismissed. We know this isn’t the case. In fact, 85% of women experience disruptive symptoms caused by menopause.

JULIE
At Nore, we spend an hour with our new patients asking very detailed questions. Some women are shy at first but really appreciate the opportunity to open up. The first appointment is a medical visit; we draw blood and examine vitals. If she hasn’t had her annual Pap, we’ll go ahead and perform that, too. We provide our patients counseling, validation and education.

HEATHER
When our patients come for their follow-up, we discuss the results of their blood work and explain to them where they are on the MRS, the Menopause Rating Scale. Their hormone and vitamin deficiencies determine our approach. Everyone is different, and we tailor treatment to the individual.

JULIE
Our goal is to give our patients the lowest dose of hormones for the shortest amount of time and follow up regularly. We favor a customized regimen of plant-based, natural bioidentical hormones over synthetics. We treat the whole woman and refer our patients to specialists when needed.

SUTHINGIRL
Who’s ready to talk sex? If I’ve heard one of my girlfriends ask this, I’ve heard them all: when did Netflix and wine become the best part of our evenings?

JULIE
The absence of sexual desire is another symptom of a woman’s hormones being out of balance. For some women, intercourse is painful due to vaginal dryness or spasms. For others, they’re just worn out and sleep is always going to win in that race.

HEATHER
We believe in a team approach to helping patients. In addition to blood work to assess hormones, we are able to refer women to sex therapists and pelvic floor physical therapy. We have great success helping ease vaginal dryness using the Mona Lisa Laser in our office.

SUTHINGIRL
I’ve tried to do my best by all of those girls out there who are laughing and peeing at the same time. Is there anything else you’d like them to know?

JULIE
Yes, we can help with that, too! Together, Heather and I have over 30 years combined medical experience. We’ve dedicated our careers to developing a breadth of care for women.

HEATHER
We are women helping women. Like our motto says, we’re here to help you “Be Your Most.”
